A champion for a better future in Calgary East

Priti Obhrai-Martin, while mostly known in Calgary East as the daughter of the Late Honourable Deepak Obhrai, has had an incredible career that spans over multiple industries, countries, and areas of expertise. She has a BSC in Anthropology and a Degree in Communications and Journalism, as well as a Certified Mediation and Conflict Coach.

Her areas of experience and expertise are diverse. In 2004 she started the first Free Digital Lifestyle Magazine in Calgary called Cultural Urban Essence (CUE). With this platform she held the First Asian Film Festival which debuted Irfan Khans' first movie.

She supported Fashion Shows, Beauty Pageants and helped with the first Global Fest, when it had cultural pavilions. She also understands the world of Media, and the importance of Integrity and Diverse Representatives providing information to all. She was the lead in helping bring Omni, Rogers, Bell and A-Channel to Calgary in 2008. This also brought opportunities for Small to Mid-Size Businesses to advertise at a reasonable price.

In addition, Priti has worked with facilitating investment education, trade opportunities and consulting in the areas of strategic communication, business diplomacy, and community management.

In 2008, for her husband's career opportunity, she and her young family moved to Indonesia and Malaysia for 7.5 years. There she earned the moniker PritMama as she created a following where families were inspired by her taking her young family on treks, eco-adventures, and highlighted multiple sanctuaries and education opportunities for endangered animals, including the Orangutang of Borneo, Gibbons and Elephants in Thailand. She also took opportunities to learn more about the Indigenous tribes in Indonesia, and spent some time with the Dayak Tribe in Kalimantan (the famed Head Hunters Tribe).

More recently she climbed Mount Meru (4566m ASL), and spent time with Mountain Gorillas in the Impenetrable Forest in Uganda. She is currently working with the local community to set up an Eco-Tourism program to benefit the local people including school children, orphanages and the Pygmy Tribe in the area.

As well, she is the Director and Founder of the Obhrai Foundation, where they support cultural celebrations around Canada, and is starting Refugee Education and Skill Training Centres in the Camps to set up newcomers with greater success. They also aim to address many of the integration and stresses on the welcoming nations.
